Govt Moves to Translate Lagos Laws into Yoruba with AI
The Lagos State Law Reform Commission recently hosted a three-day workshop aimed at utilizing Artificial Intelligence to translate the laws of Lagos State into the Yoruba language. Yoruba remains the dominant language of choice for communication in Lagos State, despite the diverse ethnicities of its millions of residents, the government moves to Translate Lagos Laws into Yoruba with AI.
This initiative, themed “Unlocking AI Powered Translation: Enhancing Access to Lagos State Laws in indigenous languages,” is set to enhance public order, safety, operational efficiency, and accessibility of the laws in Lagos State. The Yoruba language, being widely spoken among the diverse population of Lagos State, plays a crucial role in this translation project.
In a related development, the Lagos State Ministry of Innovation, Science, and Technology conducted a stakeholder engagement forum on the proposed innovation bill in June, which aims to promote innovation and create a conducive environment for technological advancement in the state.

In June, the government announced its plans for the Yoruba Week celebration in September, highlighting the importance of passing down Yoruba cultural heritage to future generations. The festival aims to showcase traditional music, dance, art exhibitions, and delicious cuisine at designated venues across the state.
