Government allegedly passes Education Bill, dodges stakeholders

The government has allegedly pushed for the passing of the Pre-Tertiary Education Bill by Parliament without Stakeholders Input amid COVID-19 Lockdown.

Reports gathered by EducationGhana indicate Parliament is considering pushing for the passing of the bill with majority support without considering an earlier decision by parliament to allow teacher unions and other stakeholders to make their input.

Teacher Unions at the Pre-Tertiary Education Level have called on the Chairman of the  Parliamentary Select Committee on Education to inform the Parliament of the Republic of Ghana to suspend any further deliberation on the Pre – Tertiary Education Bill.

The Unions, which include the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT) , Teachers and Educational Workers of Ghana (TEWU) and Coalition of Concerned Teachers Ghana (CCT), have, thus, called on parliament to suspend further deliberations on the education bill.

The Unions made this revelation in a response to an invitation by the Ghana Education Service to the Unions to an offsite meeting on the Pre-Tertiary Education Bill currently before the Parliament of Ghana for Consideration.

The purpose of the meeting is to offer the Unions the opportunity to make relevant inputs into the Bill.
