Ghana, Malta Strengthen Existing Bilateral Cooperation
President Nana Addo Dakwa Akufo-Addo emphasized the importance of seeking the support of countries like Malta to shape Ghana’s future and enhance the competitiveness of Ghanaian enterprises on a global scale. He highlighted the need for increased cooperation and partnership in driving investment opportunities, both domestically and internationally, between the two countries.
President Akufo-Addo made these remarks during a press conference held at the Jubilee House, where he was joined by President Dr George William Vella of Malta, accompanied by his wife, Miriam Vella, and a delegation of public servants and private sector representatives. President Vella’s visit to Ghana, which began on Thursday, marked a three-day state visit.
Following a private meeting between the two Presidents at the Ceremonial Room, bilateral discussions were held behind closed doors, the focus is to strengthen Ghana, Malta existing bilateral cooperation. The discussions also explored potential areas of cooperation for the mutual benefit of both countries.

President Akufo-Addo highlighted that the discussions covered various topics, including trade volumes and movements between the two countries, support for candidates from Ghana and Malta in international organizations, migration issues, global governance reform, and political consultations on matters of mutual interest. As Commonwealth member states, Ghana and Malta share similar aspirations and values, and have effectively collaborated in the past, particularly during Commonwealth Heads of Government Meetings.
The outcome of the meeting reaffirmed the commitment of both countries to further collaboration, mutual support, and the promotion of bilateral and multi-lateral cooperation.

Ghana, however, emphasized its dedication to reshaping the global political landscape, stating: “It is evident that the United Nations must undergo significant reforms to accurately represent the current global dynamics, rather than those of the past post-war era, which unfairly disadvantage African nations.”
President Akufo-Addo highlighted, “As a continent, we play a crucial role in the global arena, and international institutions should acknowledge and reflect this reality.”
He continued, “The continued dominance of a few nations in global security matters, stemming from the aftermath of World War II, is a fundamental flaw in global governance that must be rectified by the international community.”
