Fighting youth drug abuse: MP appeals to churches for support
MP Osei-Adjei speaks on youth drug abuse.
The Member of Parliament for New Juaben North Constituency, Nana Osei-Adjei, has emphasized the critical role church leaders play in combating illicit drug use among Ghana’s youth especially “Red”.
He highlighted that the church plays a crucial role in raising children , hence the importance of faith-based institutions is to actively engage in advocacy against the use of illicit drugs, which are harming the well-being of Ghana’ young people.
The New Juaben North lawmaker expressed his views during the 2025 Easter Saturday Service Convention at the Koforidua Area of the Christ Apostolic Church International, which took place at the Koforidua Effiduase Prisons Park in the New Juaben North Municipality.
Nana Osei-Adjei encouraged the church to use their pulpits to preach against drug abuse and also urged traditional leaders to make the most of the festive occasions to raise awareness about the problem.
He strongly reiterated to the Christ Apostolic Church International to keep praying for the country, the Executive, the Judiciary, and the
Legislature to protect Ghana’s peaceful environment.
Regarding the child nurturing, Nana Osei-Adjei expressed the fact that despite the increasing number of churches across the country, cases of drug abuse among children and the youth are on the increase.
He recalled that over the past years, parents persistently sent their wards to Sunday School, where they were taught the word of God and values such as respect, courtesy, and modest living values that promoted self-control and good characters among young people in those days. He drew to attention that, these kind of practices have lost significance in the modern era.
Nana Osei-Adjei therefore charged parents, the church, and all religious institutions to re-evaluate their parenting strategies and implement effective training strategies that will change younger generation to become responsible citizens in the future.
