Don’t let Ghana Publishing Company Collapse; Allocate more resources to it-Otumfuo
The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has urged the government to prioritize the revitalization of the Ghana Publishing Company Limited (GPCL) by allocating more resources to it. The esteemed monarch made this appeal during a meeting with board members at the Manhyia Palace, emphasizing the crucial role that local publishing industries play in preserving cultural heritage and driving economic growth.
GPCL, once a flagship entity in the publishing sector, has faced years of inactivity due to financial challenges. However, efforts are underway to restore its former glory, with stringent measures being implemented to revitalize the company.
Otumfuo’s appeal is rooted in his recognition of the importance of strategic investments and initiatives that would enable GPCL to regain its stature and make a meaningful contribution to Ghana’s publishing sector.

He highlighted the need for policymakers to introduce supportive measures aimed at enhancing operational efficiency and ensuring long-term sustainability.
“We have left the company to collapse, but we can revive it and I am hopeful you are making progress since you are a limited liability company,” he said.
“This is an important company because it gazettes everything. If the government supports them with deliberate policies and some percentage of government resources, I believe it will help develop the company.” Otumfuo added.
The Asantehene’s call to action comes at a critical juncture for GPCL, as the company seeks to reclaim its position as a leading player in the publishing industry. His Majesty’s advocacy is a reminder of the significance of investing in local publishing entities, which play a vital role in preserving Ghana’s cultural heritage and promoting economic development.
It is crucial that policymakers heed Otumfuo’s wise counsel and allocate more resources towards revitalizing GPCL. By doing so, they can help revitalize a vital institution that has been dormant for far too long.
As Ghana looks towards a brighter future, it is crucial that we prioritize investments in our local publishing industries. By doing so, we can ensure that our cultural heritage is preserved for posterity and that our economy benefits from the intellectual property and knowledge generated by our writers, artists, and intellectuals.
