Don’t be deceived, I won’t cancel Free SHS but make it better – John Mahama

The flag bearer of the National Democratic Congress, John Dramani Mahama advised the electorate not to be deceived that he would cancel the Free SHS policy. He said, instead, he is coming to make it better.
Reports by NPP faithful in the public domain has painted a picture that seeks to tell Ghanaians that the Akufo-Addo government’s Free Senior High School (Free SHS) will be canceled by him.

John Dramani Mahama argued that he is in support of the policy but against the implementation process. In his view, the implementation strategy has been very disorganized and flawed by shortfalls which the next NDC government will take care of and make the policy better.
Te NDC Flagbearer said the current government deployed the double-track system, only to burden parents with additional cost for tuition. With the double-track SHS students stay home for three months before they return to school.
While speaking on the Free SHS policy he indicated that
“Free SHS has come to stay. If anyone comes to you that I, John Dramani Mahama, the son of E.A. Mahama is going to cancel FREE SHS, tell that person he or she is a bloody liar. What I am against is the poor implementation that has put a lot of burden on parents”.
Ahead of the 2016 general elections the current government then the opposition party argued that it would implement free education at the SHS level for all BECE graduates. This was challenged by the NDC which believed in progressively making secondary education free. The current message from Mahama that ” I won’t cancel Free SHS” is yet to sink in with alot of voters.
However, in 2017 September, the Akufo-Addo administration successfully introduced the Free SHS policy to enable all qualified Ghanaian students to continue their education in Senior High School (SHS) at no cost.
