Diploma Teachers: No iota of logic in Napo’s claims
Napo claims that teachers with a diploma are not fit to offer instruction at basic schools and as such cannot be recruited into mainstream GES. To bolster his point which has not an iota of logic to it, he cites Finland where according to him, it is PHD holders who teach students from basic schools.
A self-defeating argument on all fronts – Napo’s claims
Until Kuffuor became president, almost all basic and preparatory school teachers possessed Cert A. It was he who changed the status quo and upgraded them to diploma. It was around that same period the he through Ameyaw Ekumfi introduced the Distance Education Program to the UCC’s academic portfolio.

From then on, all newly trained teachers would have diploma certs and those already in the field could upgrade through UCC’s distance programs, and every teacher who passed out of the mainstream CoE has been posted without a fuss – even those with third class certs.
The decision to make the minimum requirement to teach in basic school a degree was introduced recently.
So if we are to take Napo’s supra-warped logic for what it is, why are most teachers at post still teaching with diploma certificates?

Why have they not been relieved of their duties based on the fact that their certs don’t meet the minimum requirement?
Again, there are thousands of degree holders from both UCC and UCEW still at home with no employment. Why are they not being recruited to replace the diploma holders?
Lastly, why aren’t we recruiting PhD holders to teach at the preparatory levels of our schools? Seeing we have many of them around.
But here is the million dollar question about Napo’s claims
Since diploma holders aren’t qualified to teach in basic schools, is that the reason why public basic schools have been performing poorly decade after decade as compared to their counterparts from private schools who are taught by SHS graduates; even to the point that these same trained teachers send their wards to the private schools to be instructed by SHS graduates?

By all things good I hope this dude has no presidential ambitions. This will certainly be considered into our calculation if he does.
NPP folks may see him as something special, but for me and many people that I know of, he is an unfortunate blight on the party.
If the NPP loses favour with teachers, he will be to blame for all of it.
