Devastating Stormy Downpour Leaves Hundreds Displaced in Jachie Township, Ashanti Region
A powerful stormy downpour has struck the Jachie township leaving hundreds of residents displaced and struggling to cope with the aftermath in the Bosomtwe district of the Ashanti Region.
The torrential rains, which began on Thursday night, wreaked havoc on the community, tearing off roofs of more than 50 houses and destroying countless structures.
Residents are still swaying from the disaster, with many struggling to come to terms with the extent of the damage.
“I have not slept nor entered my house since the beginning of the rain at 4pm,” said one resident, Paa Willie, who was left with a room covered in pieces of concrete blocks and roofing sheets.
The storm has also left many without access to their belongings, with some residents unable to enter their homes or retrieve their valuable items.
“Not even one of the items they are picking here can work anymore,” lamented Kwasi Oppong Broni, whose own house suffered greatly.
As officials from the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) assess the damage, residents are left to pick up the pieces and try to make a way out of the destruction.

We are not yet done with the assessment to ascertain the damage, we will deliver mattress as immediate intervention whilst we work around the clock to support them better in the meantime.”
The storm has also shown concerns about the structural integrity of buildings in the area, with many residents noticing that their homes were already showing signs of weakness before the disaster struck.
The incident serves as a reminiscence of the importance of disaster preparedness and resilience as it can occur anytime.
As rescue efforts continue, residents are left to grapple with the aftermath of this devastating storm.
It is crucial that communities like Jachie Pramso take steps to mitigate against future disasters, and that governments and organizations provide adequate support to those affected.
