Vice-President, Bawumia Calls for Closer Collaboration between Government and Church to Complete National Cathedral
In a recent interaction with the clergy in Accra, Vice-President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has emphasized the need for a closer collaboration between the government and the Church to figure out the way forward for the completion of the national cathedral.
According to him, when the two stakeholders come together, it would enhance efforts at generating the needed resources to complete the said project.
The Vice-President, who is also the flag bearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), expressed his optimistic view about the completion of the cathedral, stating that it is “possible, we should not say it is not possible.”
He also emphasized his personal support to the construction of the cathedral and three light on the importance of this project for the nation.
Dr Bawumia called on the Church to come together and discuss the way forward for the national cathedral, suggesting that private resources could be mobilized to help complete the project.
He believes that when the Church and government work together, they can find a solution to complete the project.
The call of Bawumia for collaboration comes as the national cathedral has been facing delays in its completion.

The project has been marred by controversy and funding issues, which have led to concerns about its feasibility.
However, Dr Bawumia’s optimism and willingness to engage with stakeholders may be a positive step towards finding a solution.
In addition to his discussion on the national cathedral, Dr Bawumia also touched on the issue of land disputes in the country.
He attributed many of these disputes to improper documentation of lines of succession and high cost of land registration in Ghana.
To address this issue, he suggested that the system be digitalized, allowing chiefs to register lands for free.
As part of his two-day tour of the Greater Accra Region, Dr Bawumia is expected to engage with various groups and institutions, including Imams and members of the Greater Accra Regional House of Chiefs.
He will also embark on a house-to-house campaign to engage residents of Achimota in the Okaikwei North Constituency, Lapaz Market, and functionaries of the NPP.
The Vice-President’s interactions with various stakeholders are part of his nationwide engagement with various groups and institutions.
His visit is expected to provide an opportunity for him to engage with residents and hear their concerns firsthand.
