A team from the University of Cape Coast led by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Joseph Ghartey Ampiah, has arrived in Paris to participate in the 40th Session of the General Conference of UNESCO United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation.

Ghana’s Commitment to IEPA’s Category II Status
Presenting Ghana’s policy statement to members at the Conference, the Minister for Education, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, noted that, the Government of Ghana supports UNESCO’s actions in education in the Africa region and, more especially the decision to upgrade the Institute for Educational Planning and Administration (IEPA) of the University of Cape Coast to a Category II status to provide services in the areas of educational planning and research, policy formulation and training for educational leadership in the Africa Region. He indicated that the Government of Ghana would contribute a total of 3.4 million dollars annually towards the operations of both the proposed IEPA Centre and the AIMS–Ghana Category II Institute.
Dr. Prempeh, therefore, called on all Member States of UNESCO to support this important initiative which he indicated would transform educational planning and address human resource and systems needs of education in Member States of Africa.
It is expected that the General Conference will consider and approve IEPA as a Category II Institute under the auspices of UNESCO.
