A press release by youth and people in the Eastern region has called on the youth to storm NIA registration centers, arrest officers, seize registration equipment and lodge them at the police station. NIA Registration Centers are still opened and operating whiles Ghana battled to contain the spread of the deadly coronavirus aka COVID-19.
According to the statement signed by Mr. Mensah Thompson, the Executive Director, ASEPA. This comes after Professional bodies like the Ghana Medical Association, NUGS, CHRAJ, CSOs, etc over the past few days have intensified calls to the NIA to suspend its registration in the Eastern Region but little has been done to heed to those important calls.

MOVE INTO ALL REGISTRATION CENTERS, EFFECT CITIZENS ARREST ON NIA REGISTRATION OFFICERS, SIEZE REGISTRATION EQUIPMENTS AND SEND THEM TO NEARBY POLICE STATIONS- ASEPA CHARGES EASTERN REGION RESIDENTS
There is one angle to this reculcitrance by the NIA that the Citizens are failing to look at and that is the legal rights to effect Citizens Arrest.
So far several Professional bodies like the Ghana Medical Association, NUGS, CHRAJ, CSOs etc over the past few days have intensified calls to the NIA to suspend its registration in the Eastern Region but little have been done to heed to those important calls.

We are by this statement, announcing to the good people of the Eastern Region especially the YOUTH to activate their rights and effect Citizens arrest of all NIA officers at all NIA Registration Centers, Sieze all Equipments and Registration Materials and transport them together with the NIA officers to the nearby Police Station.
This must done with immediate effect and anybody can do that, it is legally recognized by the laws of our land in critical situations such as this one when the lives of the People are being endangered by the actions of these NIA officers.
We have activated several lawyers who are willing and ready to defend anyone in Court should the State decides to flout it’s own directive and charge anybody for subjecting these NIA officers to Citizens arrest.
We believe this remains the only sure way to stop the NIA’s silly reculcitrance.
Let’s effect this arrest immediately, let’s save the lives of our fathers, mothers, grandparents, uncles and the elderly in our Society who will be much hit by the deadly COVID-19 should there be an outbreak in the region.
