Windows 11 June 2023 update brings revamped widget panel, live captions for calls and more
The latest Windows 11 update introduced new features like account badging, live captions for calls, a glanceable VPN icon and a revamped widget panel.
Microsoft recently announced that it is bringing a bunch of new security and privacy-focused features to Windows 11. In a blog post, the tech giant said the new functionalities will soon be available to everyone in June as part of the latest update.
Windows 11 users can now use the new app privacy settings to easily toggle options like wake on approach and lock on leave and the ability to allow or block access to device sensors. The developers also added a new VPN tile to the ‘Quick Settings’ panel and a ‘glanceable VPN’ option which shows a small shield icon on top of your active network connection.
With the June 2023 optional non-security release, Windows 11 users will get an alert in their Start Menu whenever their PC needs attention. Machines with Pluton security processors will also be more resilient ‘to malware, stronger protection against hardware attacks and additional credential protection’.
Microsoft is also adding support for live captions for video calls which can automatically appear whenever any audio is played. The functionality will be available in 10 languages apart from English. Widgets are also getting a layout revamp with the default pane now featuring a dedicated space for user-pinned apps and a personalised feed which will show news and your collection of widgets.
The company also added Bluetooth Low Energy Audio support for select PCs based on Intel’s 13th Generation platform like the Galaxy Book3 Pro 360, Galaxy Book3 Ultra, Galaxy Book3 Pro and Galaxy Buds2 Pro earbuds.
