Wife of Ken Ofori-Atta confirms his recovery after surgery amid OSP probe

Ken Ofori-Atta, Ghana’s former Minister for Finance, has successfully undergone surgery for prostate cancer in the United States. The procedure was carried out at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota.
The surgery, described as a robotic-assisted radical prostatectomy, lasted over four hours and took place on Friday, June 13, 2025. The development was confirmed in a statement issued by his wife, Professor Angela Ofori-Atta, on Monday, June 16.
“The doctors are pleased with how the procedure went and will now place him on a postoperative regime,” she said in the statement, adding that her husband is recovering steadily.
Prof. Ofori-Atta revealed that the lead-up to the surgery was an especially trying time for the family. This, she noted, was made even more difficult by a public announcement from the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP), which issued a red alert against Mr. Ofori-Atta just before his operation.
“Kenneth has always been resilient. But this has been very difficult; with the OSP choosing the period just before his surgery to declare a red alert on him,” she noted.
Despite the emotional and psychological pressure, she assured the public that the former minister is holding up well and committed to recovering fully. “Our family is truly grateful for the support and prayers of many people and pastors,” she added.
The red alert issued by the OSP relates to ongoing investigations into alleged corruption and procurement breaches during Mr. Ofori-Atta’s tenure as Finance Minister. The OSP’s actions have drawn public attention, but the family has maintained focus on his health and recovery.
Prof. Ofori-Atta emphasized that while the recent weeks have been overwhelming, they remain hopeful. “Kenneth is bearing up well,” she said, expressing gratitude to the many individuals and clergy who have reached out in support.
Ken Ofori-Atta served as Finance Minister under President Nana Akufo-Addo’s administration and played a central role in Ghana’s economic management during his term. His recent health condition comes at a time when he is also facing legal scrutiny.
