“We’ll sue” – Patapaa’s team threatens legal action against critics’ defamatory comments.
The management of Ghanaian musician Patapaa has issued a defamation warning, threatening legal action against individuals making damaging remarks about the artiste.
In an official statement signed by Patapaa’s manager, Abdul M. Abass, the team expressed concern over what it described as a troubling pattern of negative comment, both in public and private, targeted at the musician. “Management will pursue legal action against anyone who continues to defame Patapaa,” the statement reads.
The notice emphasized the harm being caused to Patapaa’s brand and reputation, which gained both national and international recognition after the viral success of his 2017 hit, One Corner. According to the statement, “It has become common practice for individuals to speak negatively about our artiste both privately and publicly.” The management believes such comments are undermining the public image of the musician.
The statement urged the public to refrain from making defamatory comments and stressed that management would not hesitate to take legal steps to protect the artiste’s brand. “The document, signed by Patapaa’s manager, Abdul M. Abass, stresses the seriousness of the matter and called on the public to refrain from defamatory comments,” it stated.
This firm stance comes in the wake of a recent incident that attracted significant attention on social media. A video of Patapaa dancing at the funeral of fellow artiste Kwaw Kese’s late mother, Madam Yaa Serwaa, has gone viral since the event was held on Saturday, May 31. In several clips, Patapaa is seen performing and dancing energetically to entertain mourners, showcasing his signature moves and songs.
However, the performance sparked mixed reactions. While some viewed it as a fitting tribute, others took to social media to mock the musician. Critics drew attention to a past lyrical jab by rapper Sarkodie in 2018, using it as a reference point to ridicule Patapaa’s style and presence.
In response, his management has made it clear that further defamatory remarks will be met with legal consequences. The team is taking the necessary steps to preserve the reputation and dignity of their artiste in the face of ongoing public scrutiny.
