John Mahama to eliminate all wasteful projects if elected
John Mahama, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer, has stated that he will eliminate wasteful projects, like as the “One Village, One Dam” scheme, and instead invest the funds in projects that will generate more revenue for the state.
According to him, the country’s current economic situation necessitates strategic measures, including reduced government spending.
However, he claimed that the current government has failed to reduce spending and is primarily concerned with boosting revenue.

John Mahama said when given the political mandate, he would “eliminate all those wasteful projects, One Village One Dam and all those things that they spend billions on. So that we can use that money in the more productive sectors to make the economy grow again,” John Mahama said.
But, Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia, who is running to succeed President Akufo-Addo, claims that their government has handled the economy sensibly despite foreign obstacles, even cutting spending.
“Global events in the past three to five years have had a significant impact on nations and their citizens, and our country has not been spared. This has led to a series of uncomfortable situations for our citizens. Even though we are not yet where we want to be, which is back to the economic boom we experienced a few years prior to the crisis, data shows that our economy is on the path of recovery,” he told Muslims at the Eid-ul-Adha prayers on June 16.
Dr. Bawumia stated that the administration has drastically reduced general spending.
The Finance Ministry reported a total budget allocation of GH₵259 billion.
The Joy News Research Desk discovered that between 2023 and this year, the government’s expenditure budgeted allotment increased by 25.73%.
However, this is comparatively lower than the 41.6% increase between 2022 and 2023.
Additionally, the research desk discovered that budget allocations to certain industries have increased.
