WAEC begs court to reconsider withheld 2024 WASSCE results ruling
WAEC begs court to reconsider withheld 2024 WASSCE results ruling it gave in the case brought against the council. On Thursday, January 30, the court judged in favour of four students who filed a report on behalf of 10,520 candidates whose results have been withheld due to involvement in examination malpractices.
Lawyer representative of the students, Martin Kpebu, argued that WAEC had failed to specify the alleged malpractices that led to the withholding of their results.
WAEC’s Head of Legal Affairs, Rev. Victor Brew, said that the Council is seeking a reconsideration of the ruling.
There has been a ruling; a stay of execution pending appeal has been filed. “Courts are human institutions—they make rulings, but they can as well reconsider them. This is about seeking further clarification on the issue and urging the court to take a second look at its decision,” Rev. Brew stated.
Rev. Brew further gives expressions over the increased pressure on WAEC to release the withheld results without completing the necessary investigations from parents and students.
WAEC plays a crucial role in maintaining academic integrity. They want to ensure that only deserving candidates progress to professions such as law, medicine, and the judiciary.
WAEC inquires that”If, as a nation, we decide to allow a mass of students who have cheated to pass, then we must acknowledge that decision—but we should also remember the consequences of compromising the system.”

A student complained, saying, “Some of us, writing this WASSCE, thought it was our last chance and sponsoring ourselves throughout wasn’t easy. We hope to make a better life when we find ourselves in various institutions. But our results are withheld; what are we going to do since we can’t afford the next WAEC registration fee? Please WAEC, release our results so that we can also go to school.”
With the present update, WAEC urges the court to reconsider their judgement.
