Voter Registration Turns Bloody In Ahafo Ano South East As Two Sustain Machete Wounds
In a worrying turn of events, reports have emerged of violence erupting at a voter registration centre in Adu Gyama, located in the Ahafo Ano South East constituency of the Ashanti region.
Two individuals have been injured as a result of rioting between two factions at the centre.
The conflict arose when a group attempted to prevent two students from registering their details in the voters’ album, leading to a violent altercation.

Eyewitnesses at the scene revealed that the two students, believed to have been brought to the centre by an agent of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), faced resistance from other political party agents and residents present.

The opposing factions raised objections, asserting that the students were not legitimate residents of the area and should not be allowed to register.
Despite an initial attempt to resolve the dispute, the situation escalated when a group of armed men forcibly entered the centre, brandishing weapons such as clubs and machetes.
Their intention was to pressure Electoral Commission officials to permit the registration of the students.
In response, the political party agents and residents stood their ground, leading to a heated confrontation that resulted in two individuals sustaining injuries to their neck and arms.

The two injured individuals are currently under medical care at the St. Mankraso Hospital in the constituency.
As a consequence of the violence, the registration exercise at the centre was abruptly halted as the Electoral Commission endeavors to address the unfolding situation.
