Two students from the Seventh Day Adventist Secondary School (SDA SHS) in Bantama, Ashanti Region, are recovering after being shot by a classmate on Friday, April 4, 2025. The incident occurred during break time and has left the school community in shock
According to reliable sources, Bernard Amoabeng, a form two student, brought a gun to school. It is believed that the gun was not intended for harm initially, but a heated argument among students broke out about whether the weapon was functional. In an attempt to demonstrate that it was, Amoabeng allegedly fired the gun, inadvertently injuring two of his classmates
One of the victims, identified as Penamang, was critically injured by a gunshot wound to her forehead. She was immediately rushed to Kwadaso Hospital for treatment but had to be transferred to Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital due to the severity of her injuries. The other student’s injuries were less severe but still required medical attention.
The Suame Police have swiftly arrested Bernard Amoabeng and are conducting a thorough investigation into the incident. While it is still unclear how the student managed to bring the gun onto the school premises, authorities are focusing on the circumstances surrounding the shooting and the arguments that led up to it.
The incident has sparked concern about safety on school campuses, especially regarding the availability of firearms to students. The school management has assured parents and guardians that measures will be taken to ensure such an event does not occur again.
As investigations continue, the school and local authorities are working together to provide support to the victims and their families, while also addressing the need for increased security to safeguard students from such violent occurrences in the future.
The shooting has raised important questions about school safety and the influence of peer pressure on students. As the community processes the incident, there is a growing call for stronger measures to prevent weapons from entering school grounds and to foster a culture of responsibility and conflict resolution among students. With the investigation ongoing, many hope this event will lead to meaningful changes that will protect students and create a safer learning environment for all.
