The State Of Ghanaian Farmers Amidst Covid-19 Pandemic Pathetic-Youth Rise International
The Youth Rise International a non-profit youth-focused and youth-driven NGO has congratulated all farmers in Ghana who work tirelessly to feed this nation and beyond as we commemorate Worker’s Day.
It used the 2020 May Day celebration to urgently call on the Government of Ghana through the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection (MGCSP) to disburse LEAP and immediately roll out social interventions for the Ghanaian farmers across the nation. Failure to do so will be gross injustice as well as jeopardizing our economy.
Youth Rise International appreciates that the Government of Ghana is taking drastic measures to contain, treat and stop the spread of COVID-19. However, it will interest you to know that the Ghanaian farmers in remotes villages across the nation have been neglected. Which of the Government of Ghana’s social intervention to mitigate the impacts of COVID-19 on citizens of Ghana was directed to majority of poor farmers who struggle to have a square meal a day?
Subsidies on electricity, pipe-born water among others are great however it believes that this has little impact on the plights of farmers in Ghana. It holds the view that the rich and those living in cities benefit, while our poor farmers in the remote communities have no or little benefits from these interventions.
The Youth Rise International put on record in its press release copied to NewsGhana24.com that though the cash transfer program (LEAP) was of great assistance to huge number of farmers and the vulnerable in society, it has been suspended.
Whiles it believes the deprivation of the poor and vulnerable in society especially farmers’ access to LEAP and social interventions was unfortunate, it called on the government to pay immediate attention to farmers and ensure that the economic impacts of COVID-19 pandemic on this deprived group is duly mitigated.

I think this topic is very important in the lives of a Ghanaian farmer. So government should actually look into that topic very quick.
