Shocking! Missing woman found dead inside a python
In a shocking and tragic incident, a woman has been found dead inside the belly of a python after it swallowed her whole in central Indonesia.
The grim discovery was made on Friday, June 7, 2024, in the village of Kalempang, located in South Sulawesi province. Local officials confirmed the details on Saturday, June 8, 2024.
Farida, a 45-year-old mother of four, had gone missing on Thursday night after failing to return home.
Her husband and other residents initiated a search when she did not come back, according to Suardi Rosi, the village head, who spoke to AFP.
“Her husband found her belongings… which made him suspicious,” Suardi explained. “The villagers then searched the area. They soon spotted a python with a large belly. They agreed to cut open the python’s stomach, and as soon as they did, Farida’s head was immediately visible.”
The reticulated python, measuring approximately five meters (16 feet) in length, had swallowed Farida whole. Remarkably, she was found fully clothed inside the snake.
Such incidents, while extremely rare, have occurred several times in Indonesia in recent years, highlighting the perilous interactions between humans and wildlife in some regions.
Last year, for instance, an eight-meter python was killed by residents in Southeast Sulawesi’s Tinanggea district after it was found strangling and eating a farmer in a village.
Similarly, in 2018, a 54-year-old woman was discovered dead inside a seven-meter python in Southeast Sulawesi’s Muna town.
The year prior, a farmer in West Sulawesi went missing and was later found to have been eaten alive by a four-meter python at a palm oil plantation.
These tragic events underscore the dangers posed by large pythons in rural areas of Indonesia.
The reticulated python, native to South and Southeast Asia, is one of the world’s longest and most powerful snake species.
They are known for their ability to constrict and swallow prey much larger than themselves, including humans in rare cases.
The recurrence of such incidents has raised concerns about the safety of people living in areas where these snakes are prevalent.

While human-snake conflicts are infrequent, they often result in fatal outcomes when they do occur.
The sheer size and strength of reticulated pythons make them formidable predators, capable of overpowering and consuming large mammals.
Efforts to mitigate such risks include increased awareness and education for local populations about the potential dangers of large pythons.
Villagers are often advised to take precautions when venturing into areas where these snakes are known to inhabit.
However, the unpredictable nature of these encounters makes complete prevention challenging.
The tragic death of Farida serves as a stark reminder of the delicate balance between humans and wildlife in Indonesia.
As urban development encroaches on natural habitats, the frequency of human-animal interactions is likely to rise, necessitating more robust measures to protect both people and wildlife.
