Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor seeks injunction on 5G contract
A current lawmaker and the member of Parliament for South Dayi, Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor, has made known to the public that he will test Ghana’s judiciary system by seeking an injunction against the 5G contract which was announced some days ago by the Minister of Communications and Digitalization, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful.
The 5G contract deal was rewarded to NextGen InfraCo.
The lawmaker asserted that he has apt information about the deal to form the basis for testing the law on the validity of the contract and it’s transactions.
Speaking on TV3 about the 5G contract deal, Rockson-Nelson said “It must be subjected to the procurement laws in consonance with the constitution.”
Mr. Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor referred to the decision by the Ministry of Communication to grant a 5G licensing contract to NextGen InfraCo as “scandalous”. He said it does not qualify as “sole-sourcing”.

The member of Parliament emphasised that the 5G contract “breaches the economic rights of other existing Ghanaian entities”.
According to Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor, the government of Ghana is making a deliberate move to break the monopoly of a mobile telecommunications network by creating another monopoly.
He took time to elaborate paragraphs two and three of the Minister of Communication and Digitalization’s statement, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, noting the emphasis on reducing the dominance of a particular mobile telecommunication network in the Country.

In a response to Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor’s assertions and move to seek court injunction, the Director of Legal Affairs of the NPP, Gary Nimako Marfo Said it is essential to seek an injunction to halt the deal, urged the need for adequate information about the deal before any move is made.
