Plane Carrying Malawi Vice-President Goes Missing
The plane carrying Vice-President Saulos Chilima has gone missing in an unprecedented incident.
A dramatic development has shaken the nation of Malawi, as a plane carrying Vice-President Saulos Chilima and nine other passengers has gone missing.
The aircraft, operated by the Malawi Defense Force, “went off the radar” shortly after taking off from Lilongwe, the capital city, on Monday morning.
According to a statement from the President’s office, the plane was scheduled to land at Mzuzu International Airport in the country’s north just after 10:00 local time (11:00 BST).

However, after aviation officials failed to establish contact with the aircraft, President Lazarus Chakwera ordered a search and rescue operation to be launched immediately.
The disappearance of the plane has sent a wave of dismay through the country, with many people expressing concern for the safety of those on board.
The Malawi Defense Force has been working tirelessly to locate the aircraft, but so far, no sign of it has been found (missing).
In reacting to the incident, President Chakwera cancelled his scheduled flight to the Bahamas, where he was due to attend a conference. The President’s office has also set up a crisis center to coordinate the search and rescue efforts.
The incident has raised questions about the safety of air travel in Malawi, which is a relatively small country with a developing aviation infrastructure.
The Malawi Defense Force has been operating years, but this is the first time one of its plane s has gone missing.
