Osumanu Banito Lamptey Retained as Anyaa-Sowutuom NDC Youth Organiser; Two Women Elected to Youth Leadership
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Youth Organiser for the Anyaa-Sowutuom Constituency, Osumanu Banito Lamptey, has secured another mandate following his re-election in the party’s internal elections held on Saturday, October 24, 2026.
Lamptey polled 223 votes to defeat his contender, Edem Akakpo, who obtained 44 votes, reaffirming his position as the constituency’s youth leader.
The elections also saw Seshime Akoe Djiegbor elected as Deputy Youth Organiser after securing 100 votes, while Florence Sefakor Fumey won the Other Youth Representative position with 193 votes against Emmanuel Krah Daabo’s 70 votes.
The emergence of the two women in the constituency’s youth leadership is expected to contribute to youth mobilisation, grassroots engagement, and representation within the party.
Speaking in an interview following his re-election, Lamptey attributed his victory to his longstanding relationship with young people and his efforts to create opportunities for them, particularly since the NDC assumed office in 2024.
He explained that his commitment to the welfare of young party members had included facilitating opportunities through government employment and skills-development programmes.
According to him, he helped secure opportunities for some branch youth organisers through the Youth Employment Agency (YEA) and the National Apprenticeship Programme (NAP).
“I have never neglected them. I have always been with them since we came to power, and I was 100 percent sure they would vote massively for me,” he said.
Job creation, skills development top priorities
Outlining his priorities for the new mandate, Lamptey said job creation, vocational training and economic empowerment would feature prominently in his agenda for the constituency’s youth.
He disclosed that he had approximately 300 youth organisers under his leadership and was determined to ensure that more young people accessed employment opportunities and acquired practical skills to improve their livelihoods.
“My main aim this time is to make sure that more of the youth get opportunities, especially in the area of job creation. I want most of them to have something to do. Through the National Apprenticeship Programme, I also want more young people to acquire skills,” he stated.
He said the new leadership would work towards expanding opportunities for young people while strengthening their participation in party activities at the grassroots.
Sets sights on 2028 parliamentary victory
Beyond youth empowerment, Lamptey identified winning the Anyaa-Sowutuom parliamentary seat for the NDC in the 2028 general elections as a major objective of his renewed mandate.
He observed that the constituency had yet to secure the parliamentary seat for the party and said the youth wing was determined to contribute to changing that record.
He explained that sustained engagement with grassroots supporters, particularly young people in informal settlements, would form an important part of the strategy.
Lamptey cited the Ghetto Connect initiative, which he organised after the 2024 general elections, as an example of his efforts to maintain relationships with communities that supported the party.
He said the initiative provided an opportunity to personally appreciate residents of the ghettos for their participation in the electoral process and reassure them that their contributions had not been forgotten.
“After the 2024 elections, I went back to the ghettos to thank the people who came out and voted for us massively. I wanted them to know that I had not forgotten about them,” he said.
He indicated that the engagement would continue as the party worked towards strengthening its grassroots presence ahead of the next general elections.
Lamptey further expressed confidence in the newly elected youth leadership, particularly the involvement of his two female deputies in advancing the constituency’s mobilisation agenda.
Two women join constituency youth leadership
The election of Seshime Akoe Djiegbor as Deputy Youth Organiser and Florence Sefakor Fumey as Other Youth Representative introduces two female voices into key positions within the constituency’s youth structure.
The two are expected to work with Lamptey and other youth organisers to strengthen mobilisation, improve engagement with young people, and support the implementation of the youth wing’s programmes.
Their election also comes at a time when the party is preparing to consolidate its grassroots structures ahead of the 2028 general elections.
Lamptey’s political journey
Recounting his political journey, Lamptey said his involvement in party politics began in 2000 when he served as a branch Youth Organiser.
He later rose through the party’s constituency structures, becoming Deputy Constituency Youth Organiser in 2016 before being elected substantive Youth Organiser in 2022.
His re-election in October 2026 marks another chapter in his leadership of the constituency’s youth wing.
The NDC’s Anyaa-Sowutuom Constituency internal elections also produced new executives across several positions, including administration, communication, organisation, women’s leadership, and the Zongo Caucus.
With the new executives now elected, attention is expected to shift towards strengthening party structures, expanding grassroots engagement, and preparing the constituency for the next electoral cycle.
