NPP Primary: Akufo-Addo ’s Personal driver wins La Dadekotopon parliamentary candidate
In a significant turn of events within Ghana’s political landscape, Joseph Addo, the personal driver to President Nana Akufo-Addo, has been elected as the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) parliamentary candidate for La Dadekotopon in the party’s primary election, a big win!.
Joseph Addo secured the candidacy by obtaining 664 votes, surpassing his main competitor, Solomon Kotey Niikio, who received 555 votes.
The primary was organized by the National Executive Committee of the NPP following the resignation of the previously elected candidate, Dr. Gerald Joseph Tetteh, who stepped down citing personal reasons.
The vacancy prompted Joseph Addo, who has served as the president’s driver for over two decades, to declare his candidacy.
The election took place against a backdrop of recent strategic moves by Joseph Addo, including the donation of an office complex to the NPP on Ako Adjei Road.
This contribution came at a crucial time, as the party had been operating out of a rented space due to the absence of a permanent office in the area.
During the inauguration of the office, Addo emphasized that his gesture was intended to strengthen the party’s operational capabilities in its effort to reclaim power from the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the upcoming elections.

The NPP is seeking to make significant inroads in La Dadekotopon, a constituency that has proven challenging in past elections. In the 2020 national elections, the NPP lost the parliamentary seat to the NDC’s Rita Naa Odoley Sowah.
The defeat has been a motivating factor for the NPP as it aims to consolidate support and revitalize its campaign strategies in the region.
Joseph Addo’s election as the parliamentary candidate is seen as a potentially transformative development for the NPP’s prospects in La Dadekotopon.
His close association with President Akufo-Addo and his long-term service within the presidential circle are believed to bring valuable experience and insight, which could appeal to the electorate.
Following his victory, Addo expressed gratitude to the party members and supporters who rallied behind him during the primary.
He pledged to work tirelessly to address the needs and concerns of the constituents, focusing on improving infrastructure, healthcare, and educational services.
Addo also outlined plans to engage more actively with the youth in the constituency to foster a more inclusive political process.
The NPP’s leadership has congratulated Joseph Addo on his successful candidacy, affirming their support and expressing optimism about his ability to lead the party to victory in the general elections.
They highlighted his dedication and loyalty to the party and the president as key qualities that make him a formidable candidate.
As the political dynamics continue to unfold in La Dadekotopon, the NPP is gearing up for a vigorous campaign, aiming to overturn the previous election results and secure a strategic victory that could have broader implications for the party’s performance nationally.
Joseph Addo’s unique position and personal journey from a presidential driver to a parliamentary candidate underscore the often-unpredictable nature of Ghanaian politics and the opportunities that exist within it for dedicated party loyalists.
