NPP man calls for establishment of corruption court

The Madina Constituency Chairman of the New Patriotic Party, Eric Nartey Yeboah, has called for the establishment of a special court for the expeditious and effective prosecution of corruption cases.

In a post on his Facebook wall, Eric Yeboah commended President Nana Akufo-Addo for his commitment to the fight against corruption but also stressed that the institution of a ‘corruption court’ will enable the Special Prosecutor achieve its set objectives.

“I think this is the right time to win the fight against corruption; having an incorruptible lawyer as a president. We can set up a special court of corruption which will deal only with the resolution of corruption related cases and give meaning to the functions of the Special Prosecutors”.

He also made a case for the airing of corruption-related cases on national television.

“We will then charge the State’s Television to dedicate one of its channels for the live broadcast of this court proceedings. We are done with the fight”.

Earlier this month, the President reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to fighting corruption, stating that twenty-one officials of the erstwhile Mahama government are standing trial for various acts of corruption.

Speaking at the Ghana Bar Association (GBA) annual general conference in Takoradi, the president said the cases involve a total of about GHC772million.

“So far, 21 officials of the previous administration are standing trial over their involvement in alleged acts of corruption or causing financial loss to the state, amounting collectively to the tune of some GHC772million. Their trials are being conducted in the normal manner with the safeguards that the law affords all accused persons so that due process is respected. The court will at the appropriate moment deliver their verdict,” he said.
