The Ghana police in Kumasi have picked up four (4) people for breaking the rules governing the registration of persons for the Voters ID. They were arrested for illegally having in their possession, Electoral Commission’s limited registration guarantors form and other documents which were for the registration of persons in the ongoing process.
The four were arrested by the police behind the Ashanti regional coordinating Council’s canteen close to the regional minister’s office. They were seen busily filling forms for new registrants against the rules of the process and the laws of Ghana.
The suspects are Alidu, youth organizer of Manhyia South Constituency, Kasim, Nasara coordinator of the Asokwa Constituency, Kyei, a staff of the Electoral Commission and one other.
The four persons were handed to the Ashanti regional police command following a closed-door meeting between the executive of the NDC, NPP, and EC at the regional office of the electoral commission in Kumasi.
The NDC’s vigilance and efforts to prove their fears to the EC regarding the registration led to the picking of the suspects after a complaint filed by the NDC’s constituency secretary for Asokwa.
In a related development, two other members of the NPP who were alleged to have tried to engage in double registration have also been picked up by the police and will be put before the court on Monday, 8th July 2019.
