Nigeria-South Africa AFCON match is Worth more than Bawumia’s speech – Asiedu Nketiah
Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, the National Chairman of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), has disclosed that he preferred the AFCON match between Nigeria and South Africa to the campaign address provided by the governing NPP’s flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
Nigeria faced South Africa in the semifinal round of the ongoing African Cup of Nations event.
In an interview with Accra’s Okay FM, Mr Asiedu Nketiah revealed, among other things, that he listened to recorded portions of the NPP presidential candidate’s campaign speech.

“I recorded it because Nigeria’s match was more important to me than Bawumia’s words…”The match was more enjoyable than what Bawumia had to say, and you know how difficult it is to listen to lies.
“You get infuriated listening to lies, so I recorded it, and I’ve listened to some portions,” he went on to say.
Dr. Bawumia, the New Patriotic Party’s flagbearer, delivered a speech on Wednesday titled “Ghana’s Next Chapter,” outlining his governance ideas ahead of the 2024 presidential election.
The NDC National Chairman stated that their party will not tolerate attempts to absolve Dr. Bawumia of responsibility for the country’s economic problems. “This is just a precursor; we are coming to issue a major response to his statement and expose him properly. Because if you allow falsehood to lead the nation without acting against it, you are equally guilty of what is happening.”
“So for us, we will keep speaking up and continue to remind him that where were you when we were fighting against E-Levy, Emission Tax, and VAT on Domestic Electricity?
“Recently they forced through to approve the budget which we denounced, where were the people in the NPP now supporting Bawumia? Were they not in parliament? What did they do? He cannot come and deceive us at all,” he quizzed.
Bawumia’s vision for Ghana criticised
He said that as head of the Economic Management Team (EMT), he solely advised the President.
Dr. Bawumia stated in his lecture at the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA) on Wednesday, February 7, that “thankfully, I was appointed as chair of the EMT. As a Cabinet subcommittee, we do not have decision-making authority, but I am quite proud of the quality of advise we have provided to Cabinet over the years. As vice president, I was requested by the president to help solve the challenges that were impeding the economy. My objective was to assist formalise the economy through digitalization, as outlined in our 2016 manifesto.”
