New Type of Human Found in African Natural Rock Shelter
The history of how humans have evolved and migrated out of Africa is constantly changing with the bones that we unearth. Recently, scientists discovered bones from children in Cameroon. Strangely enough, these children did not have DNA similar to the Bunta people of the Cameroon area. Instead, they were more related to other groups found in Central Africa.

Human remains allow us to peek into the genetic makeup of our ancestors. Since we already know when certain mutations happen, we can figure out the migration patterns of our ancestors. Because of this discovery, many theories about migration out of and through Africa must be reevaluated. Conducting more studies on this new group of people and where they came from is the next step. For now, scientists are simply calling them a “ghost” population.

The DNA of these “ghost” children tell very interesting stories, ones that may resonate with humans today. Their genes seem to be a mix of various groups, which tells us that mingling and mixing of different groups of people has been happening since the beginning of time. While researchers sort out the odds and ends of our human ancestors, it’s assuring to know that despite all our advances in civilization, government, and technology, human nature stays the same.
