National Service personnel to receive allowance arrears today- Felix Gyamfi
Felix Gyamfi, the Acting Director of the Ghana National Service Authority has assured the personnel of the National Service across the country that the distribution of some outstanding allowances will begin today ( February 13th, 2025 )
This information follows a directive from President John Dramani Mahama aimed at addressing the payment of the outstanding allowances that has left many personnel financial strained for months. Felix Gyamfi commended President Mahama speaking on Joy FM’s PM Express on The Wednesday, 12th February for addressing the issue, highlighting President’s concerns over delays in service allowance payment.
“We should be grateful to President John Dramani Mahama. Even before he became president, he expressed concerns about the delay in paying service personnel especially considering that the service allowance is a meager GHS715 and serious inflation issues” as Felix Gyamfi said. He again said “Once we presented the amount to him, he immediately ordered the complete payment of the arrears”.
Gyamfi confirmed that the delayed payment from August to December 2024 will be distributed, bringing the awaited relief to almost thousands of the National Service personnel. He assured the service personnel by saying “From tomorrow, service personnel will start receiving all the due arrears from them and I think all the way from August, September, October, November and December”.
The Acting Director of NSS attributed the persistent delays in payment over the pas eight years to corruption and mismanagement, describing the situation as a result of inefficiencies that deprived service personnel of their rightful allowances.
“Why has it become so? I think in the last eight years, it all became part of humongous corruption, the incompetence that we had to deal with because you didn’t understand why a service person’s meager allowance due them will be paid on time” he said.
As he was addressing concerns about the low allowance of GHS715, Felix Gyamfi hinted that President Mahama is taking into consideration to increase the allowance. He noted that the elimination of the corruption practices has free up resources, making it possible to review the allowance.
He revealed that “ President John Mahama understands the current circumstances and has significant reduced corruption and mismanagement within the scheme. I believe he is already considering how to reallocate some of the savings so that an adjustment maybe in pipeline”.
The decision to clear all the arrears and increase allowances is an essential step towards improving the welfare of National Service personnel.
