NAIMOS Taskforce officer tragically loses life in crash while fighting illegal mining activities

On Wednesday, November 19, 2025, a tragic motor accident occurred at the Obuasi Airport, which took the life of a members of National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) taskforce.
As per the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources, five people from the team were involved in the accident. These five people from the NAIMOS team were on their way to take a strong action against galamsey activities in the area but they weren’t fortunate.
As per a statement issued by the Media Relations Officer of the Ministry, this kind of operation was another step in the ongoing fight against national efforts to put a stop to illegal mining activities within the area.
The Ministry confirmed that one officer of National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) sadly lost his life immediately the motor accident occurred while the remaining four got hurt seriously. The officers who got hurt are now at the hospital receiving medical treatment.
The Minister for Lands and Natural Resources shared a deep condolences with the family of the deceased officer and expressed deep concern for the officers who got hurt.
As the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources was wishing them a speedy recovery, he also promised injured officers will be supported fully during their treatment and rehabilitation.
The Ministry drew to attention that a full investigation has started with investigation to find out out what caused the accident.
The Ministry adder that, they are going to stay committed to making sure that all frontline personnel engaged in the fight against illegal mining are protected and supported.
