Living Word Devotional: PARENTING By Pastor Mensa Otabil
Todayls Living Word Devotional is titled PARENTING
TEXT: Finally, all of you be of one mind, having compassion for one another; love as brothers, be tenderhearted, be courteous.1 Peter 3:8
A little girl was in the yard where her parents were working after a rainstorm. She followed steadily, stepped where they stepped and spoke to them, “Dad and Mum, if you don’t get mud on your feet, I won’t get any mud on me!”
Children require care, nurture, protection and grooming from both parents. It takes a lot of tender care, weeding and watering before a tree bears fruit. That’s the picture of children being nurtured by parents together.

First, Peter says be of one mind; like-mindedness involves an agreement in values both natural and spiritual, have affections in the same direction. It’s so natural to strike back when treated unjustly, to focus on anger, rage against injustice and find ways to overthrow the causer. But Peter calls us to a different kind of life, instead of exploding, focus your energy on unity.
One mind also means cooperation in the midst of diversity; you may disagree on how things are done but agree on what is to be done.
Secondly, have compassion for one another; this includes rejoicing and weeping together; enter into one another’s feelings, and have a regard for each other’s welfare.

Thirdly, love one another deeply; you bear one another’s burdens, forgive and honour one another above yourself.
Children learn by observing and imitating their parents. So the way you treat your spouse will have a profound influence on your children.
Prayer: Lord, help me be a positive influence on my children.
