Living Word Devotional: DIVINE BREAKTHROUGH By Pastor Mensa Otabil
And they rose at twilight to go to the camp of the Syrians; and when they had come to the outskirts of the Syrian camp, to their surprise no one was there. —2 Kings 7:5
Breakthrough is a military concept. It occurs when an army weakens its enemy’s forces to the point of collapse, intended to invade their territory. Divine breakthrough means to step into a more than enough blessing.
Here, the Syrian Army has besieged Samaria, creating huge economic inflation with a donkey’s head sold for 80 shekels of silver. The people have turned cannibals and king Jehoram weeps in despair. Both in and outside the city, people were starving to death.
However, Elisha the prophet promised an end to the famine and a period of abundance.
Against this desperation backdrop, lepers began to move; they confront the challenge and stumbled on a massive breakthrough. What do you do when your situation looks difficult, overwhelming and impossible? Seek divine intervention. Let’s learn these lessons from the lepers:
- They were hungry: They decided that they were not going to sit and die in misery. The lepers could have continued living behind the gate expecting a miracle to come to them, but their hunger stirred them to dream of what God can do if they take action. Discontentment can lead to great exaltation.
- They were vulnerable: In terms of military might and number, they were only four, weak and without a weapon yet they decided to act.
- They had Divine Breakthrough: God used their steps to provide the breakthrough. If God’s power is working, the size of the trouble is irrelevant. They wanted little food but instead received gold, silver, clothes, horses and more than enough. What seemed impossible with men was possible with God.
Prayer: I give you praise and thanks, O Lord, for being the God of miracles, of wonders, of signs and the God of all breakthroughs.
