List of properties destroyed to pave way for the National Cathedral
The properties destroyed by President Nana Addo to pave the way for the National Cathedral continue to surprise many, nearly six years after the demolishing of expensive private and public edifices and national assets.
Sadly, today is the day projected for the commissioning of the National Cathedral; however, the project remains a ghost town and was nicknamed the world’s most expensive pit due to the millions of dollars sunk into the foundation of the project.
According to all indications, Ghana’s 2024 independence celebration ought to have taken place in Accra, followed by the commissioning of the National Cathedral. Instead, it is taking place in Koforidua, which is far away.
What are the properties destroyed by Nana Addo to pave the way for the National Cathedral?
The National Cathedral has indeed become, embarrassingly, the world’s most expensive US$58 million abandoned ugly pit. It was once a very beautiful and iconic province, with the following notable structures that have all been senselessly demolished:
- Bungalows for Judges;
- Judicial Training Institute;
- Passport Head Office;
- Scholarship Secretariat;
- Bungalows for CHRAJ;
- Waterstone Realty Luxury Apartment Complex
- Headquarters of Comsys IT Firm;
- Malian Ambassador’s Residence.
The properties destroyed by Nana Addo to pave the way for the National Cathedral ran into millions of dollars.

The member of Parliament for North Tongu, Hon. Okudzato Ablakwa, has currently started a media engagement at the site of the infamous National Cathedral, as announced barely 48 hours ago.
According to his earlier tweet on what he has described as wasteful spending on the part of the government and those in charge of the project, “The next NDC government will be deserving of the most severe punishment from the Ghanaian people if the perpetrators of this heinous crime are not prosecuted and if our looted public funds are not retrieved from all those who scammed God and Ghanaians.”
