Letter: Biden’s leadership must provide sound education
The majority of Americans are happy to extend their congratulations to President-elect Joe Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris. Fully realizing the monumental tasks before the president-elect to reinstate normalcy and a sense of sanity to America, compounded by a rampant pandemic, I have one primary suggestion.
He has laid out an extensive list of policies his administration plans to undertake. It is my fervent hope that he is successful in bridging the yawning ideological chasm preventing this land from being a truly United States. That said, the overarching and basic need of the American people is a sound education.
Standardization of true and factual information throughout our educational institutions is key. Teaching all history; the good, the bad and the ugly, not whitewashed, will complement understanding of our place in the world. Fact- and science-based learning must be made available in our schools.
The basis of a strong country, a nation we may once again be proud of, is a well-educated populous which would have prevented the embarrassing, dangerous, debacle of the last four years. Without it, we will be further diminished to the point of irrelevance. With it we may once again progress as a unified force.
The depths to which some elected officials sink to maintain a status quo of economic and racial inequality for their own narrow self-interests and to appease an authoritarian kleptocrat are disheartening and, in the long run, self-defeating. They lead us down a dark path and, weakened to the point of capitulation, we will be shown no mercy by adversaries both foreign and domestic.
May the trust placed in Biden reward us all.
