Keke Palmer to star in and co-produce “The Backup” with Kevin Hart
Actress and television host Keke Palmer has signed on to star in the upcoming comedy film “The Backup” and will also co-produce the project alongside actor and comedian Kevin Hart.
The film will be directed by Stan Lathan, who is known for his work on hit TV shows like “The Steve Harvey Show” and “Def Comedy Jam.”
“The Backup” will follow the story of a woman who is forced to take on a job as a backup singer for a popular musician after losing her job. Along the way, she will learn valuable lessons about friendship, self-discovery, and what it takes to succeed in the music industry.
Palmer, who has previously starred in films like “Hustlers” and “CrazySexyCool: The TLC Story,” expressed her excitement about the project, saying, “I am thrilled to be partnering with Kevin Hart and Stan Lathan on this film. ‘The Backup’ is a hilarious and heartfelt story that I believe will resonate with audiences around the world.”
Hart, who has had a successful career in both stand-up comedy and film, shared his enthusiasm for the project and for working with Palmer, saying, “Keke is a talented and versatile performer, and I am excited to be working with her on this project. “The Backup” is currently in pre-production and is set to begin filming later this year. The film will be produced by Hart’s production company, HartBeat Productions, and is expected to be released in theaters in 2024.
Palmer, who first rose to fame as a child actor on the Nickelodeon series “True Jackson, VP,” has become a prominent figure in the entertainment industry in recent years. In addition to her acting career, she has also hosted several television shows, including the most recent season of “Singled Out” on MTV.
