John Mahama donates GH¢50,000 to Buzstop boys
In a way to show commitment to environmental sustainability, former President John Dramani Mahama has donated GH¢50,000 to the Buzstop boys, a group dedicated to keeping Ghana’s streets clean. This generous contribution will go towards equipping the group with the necessary tools and equipment to further their Clean Ghana campaign.
During the donation ceremony, Mahama emphasized the crucial role of voluntarism in maintaining urban cleanliness.
He lamented the challenges posed by urban anonymity, where cities with rapidly growing populations often struggle to maintain communal standards of hygiene.
Drawing from his own childhood experiences, he recalled the importance of community cleanliness and the need for individuals to take ownership of their surroundings. “When I saw you guys, young people, filling in that gap, I thought that you needed to be encouraged,” he said, praising the Buzstop boys for their dedication to improving sanitation.

The former president also highlighted the significant problem of plastic pollution, particularly the prevalence of plastic and styrofoam food packaging. He urged the public to support the efforts of groups like the Buzstop boys, emphasizing that his support was non-partisan. “I’m doing this not because I want you to vote for me. I just want to encourage you,” he stated.
Mahama’s donation follows a similar act of generosity by popular musician Charles Nii Armah Mensah, known as Shatta Wale, who recently contributed GH¢30,000 to the Buzstop boys. These combined efforts underscore a growing recognition of the need for community-driven initiatives to address the sanitation challenges facing Ghana.
The Buzstop boys’ Clean Ghana campaign aims to bring together individuals from all walks of life to work together towards a cleaner and healthier environment. With Mahama’s donation, they will be able to expand their reach and impact even more communities. As a nation, it is essential that we come together to tackle our environmental challenges head-on, and Mahama’s support is an indication of the power of collective action.
Now, lets look at how we can also contribute to our environmental cleaning campaign as done by Mahama and Shatta Wale.
Here are some ways you can contribute to environmental cleaning campaigns:
1. Participate in Local Clean-Up Events: Look for local clean-up events in your community, city, or town and participate in them. Many organizations and governments organize clean-up events, and you can also start your own initiative with friends and family. You can also join online groups and events organized by local organizations.
2. Reduce, Reuse, Recycle: One of the most effective ways to reduce waste is to reduce your consumption, reuse items whenever possible, and recycle as much as you can. This includes reducing single-use plastics, recycling paper, plastic, glass, and metal, and reusing bags, containers, and other items.
3. Spread Awareness: Educate yourself and others about the importance of environmental conservation and the impact of pollution on our planet. Share articles, videos, and social media posts about environmental issues to raise awareness and inspire others to take action. You can also speak to your friends, family, and colleagues about the importance of reducing waste and conserving natural resources.
4. Start a Neighborhood Cleanup: Organize a neighborhood clean-up with your neighbors and friends. You can start by identifying areas that need attention, such as streets, parks, or waterways, and work together to clean them up. This not only makes your community look cleaner but also brings people together.
Remember every small action counts, and collective efforts can lead to significant positive change.
