Ignoring National Cathedral concerns will disappoint Ghanaians – Dormaahene warns Mahama

The Dormaahene and President of the Bono Regional House of Chiefs, Osagyefo Oseadeeyo Dr. Nana Freduah Agyemang Badu II, has called on President John Dramani Mahama to launch a full investigation into the National Cathedral project, citing growing public concern over its cost and lack of transparency.
Speaking at a durbar during Mahama’s “Thank You” tour on Friday, May 30, the Dormaahene expressed his unease with the handling of the project, especially reports that $58 million has already been spent. He emphasized the need for bold leadership in pursuing accountability.
“Don’t fear anyone in your pursuit of justice. If you are afraid and fail to do what is required, Your Excellency, it will not be beneficial,” he said, urging Mahama not to shy away from taking firm action.
While acknowledging that he may not be aware of all the details surrounding the cathedral’s development, the chief insisted that the magnitude of the public’s concern makes it necessary to investigate.
“Regarding the National Cathedral and the $58 million, whether the person involved is a pastor, a chief, or whoever they may be, as for that pit. I don’t understand the entire situation, but it must be investigated,” he stated.
He warned the former President not to take the issue lightly, saying inaction could erode the public’s confidence in his leadership should he return to power.
“Don’t let anyone convince you that it’s not worth investigating. If you ignore it, Ghanaians will be disappointed in you,” the Dormaahene warned.
The National Cathedral, initially introduced as a sacred space of worship and a national symbol, has become a source of controversy. Critics have raised concerns about its cost, the lack of transparency, and the prioritization of such a project in a time of economic strain.
The Dormaahene’s call adds to the growing chorus of voices demanding answers and accountability on how public funds have been managed in the name of national development.
