High Security and Hushed Details as Jeff Bezos Plans Lavish Venice Wedding
Amazon founder Jeff Bezos and his fiancée, Lauren Sanchez, are planning a grand wedding in Venice this week, attracting global interest and tight security. The event, said to cost millions and include around 200 guests, is being kept under wraps, but details are slowly surfacing.
Sources say guests had to sign NDAs, and even local waiters at famous spots like Harry’s Bar are hoping to catch a glimpse of the star-studded crowd. “We can’t divulge anyone who has made a reservation. We protect the privacy of all of our guests, not just the billionaires,” a waiter told CNN.
Reports suggest the wedding is being organized by Lanza and Baucina, the same planners who oversaw George Clooney’s 2014 wedding. Rumors continue to swirl about the guest list, possible venues, and Sanchez’s dress, though she is keeping it a surprise.
Local vendors are playing a big part, with 80% of goods coming from nearby businesses. The Rosa Salva pastry shop is preparing 200 goodie bags, and Murano glassmakers are crafting party favors.
However, not everyone is happy. Some Venetians have criticized the wedding’s scale, fearing disruption in a city already struggling with mass tourism. The planning team denied any intention to “take over” the city, saying, “From the outset, instructions from our client and our own guiding principles were abundantly clear: the minimizing of any disruption to the city.”
To show appreciation, Bezos and Sanchez donated €1 million to a Venice-based environmental research group. Luca Zaia, president of the Veneto region, called it a “gesture of love and responsibility.”
Security is tight: airspace is closed to drones, private helicopter permissions have been granted, and several water taxis, gondolas, and yacht docks have been reserved. The exact wedding date and venue are still secret, with multiple locations booked to allow flexibility based on weather and possible protests.
Possible venues include the Cini Foundation, the Aman Hotel, and the Scuola Grande della Misericordia. A wedding-style gazebo has even popped up near the Excelsior Hotel. But for now, the couple remains silent and the world keeps guessing.
