GRIDCO apologies for the disruption of the National Grid

On Thursday,3rd April, 2025, in the evening,a vast area of Ghana experienced light out which affected many people. It was as a result of some disruption at the National Grid.
According to Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCo) the issue which occurred yesterday has been resolved. They further explained that the power outage, which affected areas including Accra, Kumasi, Sunyani, Techiman, Bui, Tumu, Sawla, and various regions in the north of Ghana, was not intentional and therefore was triggered by a fault on the Tafo-Nkawkaw transmission line at exactly 20:09 pm.
Due to this fault, a blackout was experienced in the evening. Almost everybody at the affected. People were criticising the government for the blackout. Firstly, a ripple effect was caused leading to failures across transmission lines near. This caused further shutdown of several power plant leading to blackout especially places beyond Kumasi.
GRIDCo’s System Control Centre responded promptly to the situation, activating emergency procedures to stabilise the national grid.Power restoration efforts started immediately and after careful efforts by 11:45 pm the electricity supply had been fully restored across the various affected areas.GRIDCo expressed a full apology to the public for the inconvenience caused by the disruption.
Dzifa Bampoh, Manager of Corporate Communications at GRIDCo, expressed regret, stating, “The Ghana Grid Company sincerely apologises to the general public for the disruption.”
