ECG’s Samuel Dubik Mahama Sets the Record Straight on Port Container Claims
In an interview with TV3, Samuel Dubik Mahama, the former Managing Director (MD) of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), addressed claims that ECG containers were missing from the Tema Port. He clarified that the containers are still at the port and are not missing, as some had believed. “There is no missing ECG container. The containers are still at the Tema Port,” Mahama explained, emphasizing that the situation had been misunderstood by the public.
Mahama pointed out that the confusion arose from the containers being delayed at the port due to financial constraints. “What has happened is that people have not understood the situation properly. The containers are still there,” he said. He explained that these containers were filled with important ECG equipment that had been waiting for clearance but had been delayed due to financial challenges, not because they had disappeared.
Addressing the rumors of the containers being secretly auctioned, Mahama firmly denied the allegations. “If there was any auction of ECG containers, the company had no knowledge of it,” he stated. He stressed that ECG had not been informed about any such actions, highlighting that any claims of secret auctions were false.
Furthermore, Mahama explained that the delay in clearing the containers was linked to financial difficulties, not negligence. “The issue is not about the disappearance of containers but rather the backlog due to financial challenges in clearing them,” he clarified. He also pointed out that the company had been facing struggles in managing the clearance of the containers but was working on resolving the situation.
Mahama also emphasized the need for better transparency in handling these kinds of situations. “It’s important that the public understands the full picture to avoid confusion. We need more transparency in managing the clearance of such containers,” he urged. This statement reflects his call for clearer communication to ensure that the public is properly informed about the situation.
In simple terms, Mahama made it clear that the ECG containers in question were never lost. They remained at the Tema Port, awaiting clearance, and the delay was due to financial constraints rather than any wrongdoing. He urged for more transparency to prevent misunderstandings in the future.
