Ghana Airports Company Limited staff interdicted over alleged cocaine smuggling at Kotoka International Airport

In a decisive move, the Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) has interdicted all staff implicated in a significant cocaine smuggling operation at the Kotoka International Airport (KIA).
This action follows the discovery of a substantial drug shipment intercepted at Brussels Airport, Belgium, highlighting a grave security breach at KIA.
The incident, which has drawn widespread attention, involves the smuggling of cocaine through KIA on a flight operated by the Moroccan national carrier, Royal Air Maroc, on March 23, 2024.
A key element of this operation was the alleged involvement of a GACL staff member, pointing to a serious compromise within the airport’s operational integrity.
The apprehension of Proeger Delgey Bianca, a Dutch national, at Brussels Airport with eight and a half kilograms of suspected cocaine, underscores the international ramifications of this breach.
This arrest has cast a spotlight on the operational vulnerabilities at KIA and the need for stringent security measures.
In response, GACL has initiated a comprehensive investigation, interdicting those staff members believed to be involved.

Management has warned of severe consequences, including possible dismissals and legal actions, for any staff found facilitating illegal activities.
This stance reflects GACL’s dedication to safeguarding its operations against any form of compromise.
Furthermore, GACL’s proactive measures and cooperation with law enforcement agencies aim to restore public confidence and ensure the integrity of airport operations.
The company’s commitment to safety and security is paramount, emphasizing the need for continuous vigilance and adherence to the highest standards of conduct among all staff.
