Fomena: NPP Constituency Chairman resigns
The Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for the Fomena Constituency in the Ashanti Region has resigned his position.
Fomena NPP Constituency Chairman resigns:
Akwasi Nti Asamoah tendered in his resignation letter sighted by 3news.com on Wednesday, December 30.
“I write to formally inform you of my decision to resign as the Chairman of the ruling New Patriotic Party Fomena Constituency on health grounds,” he wrote in the letter addressed to the Ashanti Region Chairman of the party, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi.
“I have therefore arrived at this decision having considered advice from medical professionals for me to take leave of active politics.”
Fomena Constituency is the only constituency an independent candidate won in the December 7 parliamentary elections.
Lawyer Andrews Amoako Asiamah, who was the Member of Parliament on the ticket of the NPP until November 7 when he was expelled by the Speaker, successfully challenged for the seat again as an independent candidate.
He beat NPP’s Philip Ofori-Asante by over 2,000 votes to win the seat.
Many believe NPP’s defeat was a result of the misunderstanding among the party’s executives in the Constituency.
“Notwithstanding my resignation, I want to give the firmest assurance that I will continue to support the party in all capacity to and make it possible in consolidating the gains made since the formation of the NPP,” Mr Nti Asamoah added.
