Expired ‘Free SHS’ Mackerel, other food products destroyed by FDA
The FDA has advised the general public to check manufacturing dates, expiry dates and registration status of foods and drugs before purchasing them.
Mr. Sebastian Mawuli Hotor who holds the position of Upper East’s Regional Head of the FDA added that it is very important to buy food and drug items from only accredited and recognized shopping outlets to ensure the purchase of safety and quality products.
Speaking to Citi News where the FDA destroyed expired products seized from pharmaceutical shops, open markets, and provision shops in the Upper East Region, Mr. Mawuli stressed the critical need for consumers to be vigilant.
“It is essential for everyone to check expiry dates and the registration status of food and drug products to avoid the health risks associated with expired or unregistered items,” he stated.
Mr. Mawuli Hotor also advised retailers to adopt good storage and stock management practices.
He advised that retailers should prioritize selling food and drug items that are closer to their expiry dates.
This would prevent food and drug items from expiring on the shelves.
Mr. Mawuli Hotor encouraged the general public to report any instances of expired or unwholesome products being sold.
