Covenant Presby School holds 15th graduation and awards ceremony

The District Minister of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana (PCG) Dzorwulu District, Rev. Kingsley Asare Addo has entreated parents and caregivers to always endeavor to commit their resources towards meeting the educational needs of their children for a brighter future.

According to him, children are reward from God to parents and caregivers who are entrusted with the primary responsibility to nurture and train them to the best of their ability and to the highest levels to which their resources will allow in appreciation to the Lord who gave to them.

Rev. Kingsley Asare Addo made the plea while delivering a keynote address on the theme: “Empowering the next generation to shine” at a ceremony to mark the 15th graduation and awards ceremony of the Covenant Presby School Dzorwulu held at the school premises on Friday December 16, 2022.

The colourful ceremony which was graced by clergies, educationists, heads of educational institutions, and parents marked the graduation of thirty-one young kindergarten scholars to Class One and thirty-six (36) Junior High School students to Senior High School (SHS).

Rev. Kingsley Asare Addo whose address revolves around the Biblical scriptures from the book of Proverbs 22:16 adequately reminded parents and caregivers of the extreme sacrifices demanded of them as part of their responsibility towards the grooming and welfare of their wards.

He said: “Do not forget the age old saying which says that, “Train a child in a way he should go and when he’s old, he will not turn from it”

“The training we give to them today, will prepare and empower them to handle life challenges tomorrow. Our children must be seen and be heard.

They must be understood and they must become relevant and functional to the cause of society so that they can be drivers of change that society desires”, he stressed.

Rev. Addo who doubles as the Local Manager of the Covenant Presby School Dzorwulu alluded to the fact that ‘refining the hidden qualities’ of these young ones is a shared responsibility and therefore urges teachers to give off their best and contribute their quota to the academic development and grooming of school children. He also called on the church to play its roles in ensuring that the needs of children are properly groomed and nurtured to flourish.

While congratulating the graduates, he charged them to make good use of the discipline they have acquired while in school and be guided by them to overcome corruption and other ills of the society.

Dr. Bennet Kpentey, Chairman of the School Board in his message conveys sincere gratitude from the Board to the personnel of the Covenant Presby School for their selfless dedication to work.

He equally thanked the Headmistress of the school, Mrs. Evelyn Amoamah Antwi for her leadership roles which continues to propel the school to new heights.

Dr. Kpentey advised the new graduates to remain disciplined always and be guided by truth and integrity but most importantly the fear of the Lord and remain in his presence always in order to surmount the challenges of life.

Delivering his address as the Chairperson for the occasion, Mr Samuel Adu, Former Session Clerk of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, Covenant Congregation Dzorwulu lauded the graduands for excelling towards graduation and appealed to them to always strive to pray unceasingly, learn hard at all times and work assiduously towards guarantying themselves a brighter future.

“I want you to learn as if everything depends on learning, pray as if everything depends on prayer and work hard as if all things depend on working”.

Headmistress of the Covenant Presby School, Mrs. Evelyn Amoamah Antwi in her welcome address charges the graduands to be circumspect in their attitude and uphold the ideals and values the school has inculcated in them as they progress to the next level of their education career.

While commending the young scholars for the victory prior to their graduation, she quickly warned them against indulging in intimate boy and girl relationship, lesbianism and homosexuality practices, occultism, internet fraud, smoking, alcoholism among other social vices that has the tendency to mar their future.

Touching on the theme of the event; “Empowering the next generation to shine”, Mrs. Evelyn Amoamah Antwi averred that it was chosen in line with the theme of the Presbyterian Education Directorate theme for the year 2022 which signifies ‘shine’.

She added, “Yes we want to shine, students of the Covenant Presby School really want to shine, we want to stand out, we want to be recognized and noticed wherever we will find ourselves”.

In his address, Aryeetey Ulrick Samuel Ayitey, the School’s Prefect touted the tremendous contributions and sacrifices made by the school’s teaching and the non-teaching staff which have helped shape the students’ lives and equally positioned them to be responsible young adults.

“You have contributed immensely to every sector of our lives and we believe without you as our mentors, we would not have made it to this high up on the educational ladder”, the young scholar stated while lauding the school’s staff.

The ceremony was climaxed with presentation of certificates of merit to the young graduates but the thrill of the occasion came from the scintillating show put up by the school cadet team strongly backed by a glowing demonstration from the school’s taekwondo team including a captivating poetry recital show by some students as well as choreography by the Kindergarten 2 graduands.

The occasion was equally an avenue for presentation of awards to some deserving students and staff of the school who have distinguished themselves through study and work.

The recognition which came in various categories witnessed Wilson Emmanuel Nii Odartei adjudged the Overall Best Student of JHS 3, while Adjandeh Samuel Mawuli was pronounced as the Overall Best Student of JH2 as well as Ashun Elian who emerged as the Overall Best of JHS 1.

For the lower primary level category, Obeng Mildred Aseda Afriyie was declared the Overall Best Student of Kindergarten 2 while Mingle Naa Adoley Lexi was adjudged the Overall Best Student of Class One (A) including Yakubu Gomda Fawwaz Tiyumba who was named as the Overall Best Student of Class One (B).

The rest are Ayiglo Sedem Caleb (Overall Best Student, Class Two), Rhule Justice Ayeyi (Overall Best Student Class Three) Quaye Nii Tettey Tawiah (Overall Best Class Four), Danquah Sarah Nhyira (Overall Best Student, Class Five) and Quaye Abayie Asifuah Sabrina( Overall Best Student, Class Six.

The Headteacher’s Special Awards were presented to three (3) deserving students; Aryeetey Ulrick Samuel Ayitey, Wilson Emmanuel Nii Odartei and Noble Worlanyo Katapu respectively.

Other awardees in the categories of teaching and non-teaching staff include Mr. Solomon Tweneboah Prempeh (2022 Best Administrative Staff), Mr. Samuel Opoku (2022 Best Teacher Primary Department), Ms. Mary Nartey (2022 Best Teacher for Academics, Pre-school Department), Mr. Ebenezer Oyortey (Best Teacher, JHS Department), Mr. Ametepe Komla Awougno (2022 Best Extracurricular Activities) and Ms. Amina Alhassan – (2022 Best Canteen Staff)

Covenant Presby School is a private mission school and a Christian Institution established in 1992 by the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, covenant congregation, Dzorwulu in Accra wholly responsible for effective teaching and learning including raising of young future leaders in Ghana.

The school has a track record of 100% passing in the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) results. In the year 2013 and 2014 BECE, the school placed 1st and 3rd positions respectively in the Ayawaso league table.
