Ekiti State High Court Sentences 29-Year-Old Man to Death by Hanging for Murder
The Ekiti State High Court, Ado Ekiti Division, has handed down a death sentence by hanging to a 29-year-old man, Adedayo Olawole, for the murder of Chukwudi Joseph.
The court found Olawole guilty of conspiracy and murder, and Justice Jubril Aladejana sentenced him to death by hanging.
The drama began on March 29, 2023, when Olawole was first arraigned on two counts of charges bordering on conspiracy and murder.
The prosecution, led by Ibironke Odetola, called six witnesses and presented several exhibits, including the defendant’s statements, pictures of the deceased, and other supporting documents.
One of the eyewitnesses, a cousin to the deceased, testified that Olawole and his gang members hit the deceased with planks before one of them stabbed him to death.
According to the eyewitness, he saw one of the gang members stab Chukwudi in the left side of his chest, and he died before anyone could come to his rescue.
Olawole’s defense was presented through his lawyer, M.A. Daramola, who called one witness.
However, in the end, the court found that the prosecution had proved beyond reasonable doubt that Olawole and others conspired to commit the felony of murder at Eporo Ekiti on December 10, 2021.
Justice Aladejana ruled that the assault on the deceased with planks before being stabbed in the left part of his chest showed that the assailants intended to kill him.
