Covenant Presbyterian School, Dzorwulu, unveils the bright future of its graduates at 17th graduation ceremony
Covenant Presbyterian School in Dzorwulu proudly celebrated its 17th graduation and awards ceremony on Friday, August 2, 2024.
This significant milestone brought together students, parents, and esteemed dignitaries to commemorate the hard work and achievements of the graduating class under the theme: “Maintaining Academic Excellence in the Midst of Challenges: The Role of Stakeholders.”
Headmistress Evelyn Amoamah Antwi opened the ceremony with a warm welcome, expressing her joy for the occasion and acknowledging the collective efforts of the school community.
She announced that 44 kindergarten students were transitioning to Primary One and that 24 Junior High School graduates had successfully completed their Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) in July 2024.
Highlighting the importance of the event’s theme, Mrs. Antwi spoke candidly about the challenges educators face, including academic, economic, social, and technological factors.
Despite these hurdles, she proudly reported the school’s impressive accomplishments, stating, “By the grace of God Almighty, Covenant Presbyterian School continues to achieve excellence in academic work at all levels. Last year, we achieved a 100% pass rate with an outstanding 84% distinction.”
Among the school’s remarkable achievements was its first-place ranking in the Ayawaso West Sub Metro Hepatitis B quiz competition organized by the Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research.
Mrs. Antwi also recognized individual students, including Master Frederick Nii Adom Lokko Jnr., who not only ranked among the top ten finalists in the Literacy Challenge 2024 Essay Competition organized by Channel One TV and City FM but was also awarded the Overall Best Student accolade for JHS 3.
The ceremony further honored dedicated staff members for their commitment to excellence. Awards were presented to Ms. Christiana Adu Gyamfi (Preschool Category), Ms. Samiratu Awudu Abdulai (Lower Primary), Mr. Foster Asare (Upper Primary), and Mr. Emmanuel Bisah (Junior High School).
A special recognition award was given to Mr. Daniel Enaman, along with acknowledgments for Ms. Gifty Amoaha (Canteen Staff) and Cadet Officers Jacob and Joshua Nyarko.
Reflecting on the school’s values, Mrs. Antwi quoted Aristotle: “Educating the mind without educating the heart is no education at all,” emphasizing that the education provided by the Presbyterian Church of Ghana equips students with knowledge and values for a bright future.
She concluded her address by appreciating parents for their unwavering support and encouraging students to face future challenges with confidence. “I challenge you to go out there and shine like the stars,” she urged.
The event featured a powerful address from Mr. Eugene Nii Adjei Laryea, the Regional Manager of Presbyterian Schools for Greater Accra. He lauded the rich heritage of Presbyterian education, highlighting its role in fostering discipline, hard work, and a cultured way of living.
Mr. Laryea underscored the importance of academic excellence in today’s rapidly changing world, emphasizing the need for collaboration among all stakeholders to overcome the challenges facing education.
Chairperson of the event, Mr. William Yaw Sakyi-Bekoe—an architect and Senior Presbyter—offered heartfelt congratulations to the Class of 2024.
He urged graduates to see their educational journey as a lifelong commitment, stating, “May the knowledge, values, and experiences you’ve gained guide you as you excel in your next educational endeavors.”
He revealed ongoing discussions about expanding the school to better serve the community and concluded with an empowering message based on Philippians 4:8, inspiring students to strive for excellence in all aspects of life.
The graduation ceremony encapsulated the spirit of collaboration between parents, educators, and community members, reaffirming the shared commitment to maintaining high educational standards.
The event was a celebration of resilience, achievement, and a bright future for the graduates of Covenant Presbyterian School, Dzorwulu.
