Choked drains to be desilted before the rainy season.
Ghana is Currently observing dry season which is leaving places littered with garbage.These rubbish can be seen in various drains,lagoons,beaches and many more in Ghana.Upon several observations,it has been noticed that areas especially the drains are being choked with rubbish which will be desilted before the rainy season is due.
If these drains are not desilted before the rainy season,it might cause floods leading to loss of lifes and properties.Structures such as schools,hospitals,walls and others which has been put up in waterways are to be demolished immediately before it is too late.Due to this,the Anti-Flood Taskforce formed by government is set to commence desilting drains as well as demolishing structured put up in waterways.
The union comprises of six-member Taskforce which is chaired by the Deputy Chief of Staff in charge of operations,Stanislav Xoese Dogbe with legal counsel to the president,Maritta Brew as Secretary.Kenneth Gilbert Adjei,The Minister of Water Resources Work and Housing,The Minister of local Government,Ahmed Ibrahim,National Security Co-ordinator,DCOP Abdul Osuman Razak, and the Deputy Director Generalof the National Disaster Management Organization(NADMO),Teddi Addi are the other committee.
On Tuesday,12th March,2025,the union emarked on aerial recce to investigate flood-prone areas to assemble vital data to prevent flood in the future as part of it field activities.Stern actions will be implemented and publicised starting with immediate effect.
Some tough decisions have been made on the walls built,blocking the water flow,houses as well as organizations. Drains too will be desilted when The Ministry of Water Resources work with The Ministry of local Government and the 48 Engineers Regiment.
