News: Alban Bagbin Remains Speaker of the 9th Parliament

On the recent press release dated 5th January 2025, the Rt. Honourable Bagbin from the previous majority cacus NPP retains his site as a new parliament speaker for the new majority party NDC.
The nomination reflects the NDC’s commitment to bolstering parliamentary governance and fostering a productive legislative environment during this critical period in Ghana’s history.
Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin was born on 24 September 1957. He is a Ghanaian politician, was sworn-in as Speaker of the Eight Parliament of Ghana on 7 January 2021. He was the current speaker of the Parliament of Ghana. He was also the Minister for Health in the Ghana government from January 2012 until February 2013.

The decision follows consultations with the leadership of the NDC and underscores Bagbin’s distinguished service to Parliament.
Over the years, Bagbin has served as a Member of Parliament for Nadwoli, held positions as both Minority and Majority Leader, and most recently, served as Speaker of the 8th Parliament.
Highlighting his extensive experience and leadership capabilities, the President-elect expressed confidence that Bagbin’s stewardship would strengthen Parliament’s ability to effectively oversee and drive Ghana’s democratic and legislative development.
This announcement was made via an official statement signed by Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Special Aide to the President-elect, on Sunday, January 5, 2025.

President-elect His Excellency John Dramani Mahama mandates NDC Parliamentary Leadership to nominate Rt. Hon. A.S.K. Bagbin as Speaker of the 9th Parliament.
The President-elect, His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, has in consultation with the National Executive and Parliamentary Leadership of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), mandated the nomination of The Right Honourable Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin as Speaker of the 9th Parliament of the Fourth Republic.
Rt. Hon. Bagbin has distinguished himself in the service of Parliament, rising from Member of Parliament for Nadowli to Minority and Majority leader respectively, and subsequently as Speaker of the 8th Parliament.
He brings a wealth of experience to the position, which will prove vital in steering the affair of Parliament at this critical period in Ghana’s democratic and legislative development.
The president-elect is convinced that under the stewardship of The Right Honourable AlbanBagbin,Ghana’s Parliament will be further strengthened to deliver effectively on its oversight responsibility.
