Former Special Prosecutor, Martin Amidu
The former Special Prosecutor, Martin Amidu has flatly denied the Speaker’s Office’s demand that he withdraw his recent words and provide a full apology within seven days.
Amidu’s response comes after Speaker Alban Bagbin urged that Martin Amidu withdraw his recent words and apologize.
Bagbin warned that failure to comply within seven days would force him to take all necessary measures to safeguard his reputation.
This decision comes after the Office of the Speaker of Parliament denied Amidu’s assertions about a secret meeting between Speaker Bagbin and President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in Dubai in 2021, before to the rejection of the 2022 budget.
In a statement, the Speaker’s office stated that no such meeting occurred in Dubai or anyplace outside of Ghana, and that Amidu’s charges were untrue, unsubstantiated, and unwarranted.
The office asked Ghanaians to treat these allegations with the contempt they deserve.
Charges by Martin Amidu
The statement described the charges as part of a purposeful and premeditated effort by certain persons to damage the Speaker’s reputation, assuring the public that such attempts would fail.

The Speaker’s office demanded that Amidu retract his words and deliver an unreserved apologies to both the Speaker and Ghana’s Parliament, with same prominence as the original incorrect and malicious statements. Martin Amidu has seven days from the date of the statement to comply.
The statement cautioned that if Amidu fails to comply with this request, the Speaker will be forced to take all necessary steps to clear his name.
However, Amidu claimed in his most recent letter to Bagbin that the media announcement was not a response to his May 26, 2024, publication.
He emphasized that he does not intend to retract or issue an apology for his remarks, and that he stands by them.
Amidu accused Bagbin of wasting public money by traveling to Dubai for medical care for ailments that he thought could be treated in Ghana.
Acknowledging a typing error in his article, he clarified that 2022—rather than 2021—was the intended year of the purported encounter.
Though he expressed regret to his readers for this oversight, he insisted that Asiedu Nketiah and John Mahama were the intended recipients of his inquiry regarding the meeting, not Bagbin.
