Borteyman Sports Complex was not for Church Programme-Venue Manager

Contrary to recent media reports, the Venue Manager of the Borteyman Sports Complex, Majeed Bawa, has categorically denied claims that the facility was used for a church programme. In a statement issued to clarify the matter, Bawa expressed concern over the misleading information that had been circulated.
According to Bawa, the event in question was a special visitation organized by the Student Representative Councils (SRCs) of several universities, including the University of Ghana, University of Professional Studies, and Valley View University.
The purpose of the visit was to familiarize students with the state-of-the-art facilities at the complex. The SRCs had written a letter requesting permission to tour the venue, and their request was granted.
On the day of the visit, the complex had just hosted a two-day Badminton competition, and the equipment was still in place.

A church group had been scheduled to provide transportation for the students, and a deputy minister was set to give a lecture on leadership. Bawa emphasized that the students were granted access to the hall solely for this purpose and not for any church programme.
“In a letter received from the SRCs, they requested a special visitation to our facility. They wanted to tour our facilities and familiarize themselves with what we have here,” Bawa explained. “A church was supposed to provide transportation for the students, and subsequently, a deputy minister was scheduled to give them a lecture on leadership. Therefore, they were granted access to the hall for this purpose.”
Bawa also clarified that there was no church programme held at the venue on that day. “The only event that took place was the visit by the students. We have no record of any church service or programme being held here that day.”
In conclusion, the Borteyman Sports Complex remains open and committed to serving the community, and it is our responsibility to ensure that this commitment is not tarnished by false information.
